Reserva Conchal Guide: Inside Guanacaste's Most Exclusive Resort
9 min read · Updated 2026-05-13
Reserva Conchal is the gated luxury community wrapped around Playa Conchal — one of the few crushed-shell beaches in the world and arguably the most photogenic on the Pacific coast. It hosts the Westin Playa Conchal all-inclusive, a private beach club, a Robert Trent Jones II golf course, and a small set of high-end villa rentals.
What makes Playa Conchal special
The beach itself is a crescent of crushed shell rather than sand — it crunches underfoot, doesn't stick to towels, and produces extraordinarily clear, calm water. The slope is gentle, the bay is protected, and snorkeling is good around the rocky points on either end.
Where it is
About 35 minutes north of Tamarindo by paved road. The main entrance is in Brasilito; Westin Playa Conchal sits on the southern side of the bay; the residential villa zone wraps around the golf course and inland hills.
Stay options
Two main paths: the Westin Playa Conchal all-inclusive resort, or a private villa rental inside the gated community. The villas tend to be high-end, often with private pools and golf course or ocean views — best for families or groups wanting more privacy than a hotel.
Golf, beach club and amenities
The Robert Trent Jones II course winds through the property and is open to villa renters and Westin guests. The Beach Club includes pools, restaurants, and beach service. The on-site spa is excellent.
Getting around inside Reserva Conchal
Like Pinilla, the property is too large to walk. Most villa renters use a golf cart for trips between villa, beach club and golf clubhouse. We deliver electric golf carts directly to Conchal villas and work with the gate for pre-clearance.
Day-trip access
If you're not staying inside Conchal, the public beach is accessible via a short walk from Brasilito — start your day early, bring water, and plan a beach lunch in Brasilito on the way out.
